Singapore Halloween 2013 - The Clementi Incident at Clementi CC

The one day Halloween event at Clementi CC was organised by Clementi CC Youth Executive Committee. Manpower was headed by New Town Secondary Basketball students. There were two haunted trails in the CC, each with a different theme. The red route is a haunted village trail, where the dead arises and follows you around. The blue route was not as scary, and you get to sit with a singing doll which will beckon for you to sing with her. Preparations for the event was done half a year ago, since the students had to prepare their props early (supposedly). We ended up getting most of the props a day before as we realised that the students only managed to get a bit of the props which were not enough to scare them. The setting up of the whole place was very hard, since there were still ongoing courses and we couldn't touch the room till they ended. The few of us stayed till around 2am just to set up the stuff the night before the event. On the day of the event, there was also PCF gr

Review: Sacrifice by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz

I have been waiting to read this! This is the sequel of Crave, which I have read some time back. I did a review here . The mystery of Shay's long illness has finally been solved: She is half vampire, and her body would fail without Gabriel's blood. There is only one place he believes she would be safe - with his vampire family. But when he brings her to them, Gabriel is shocked to find that they consider Shay to be an abomination not belonging in either world, humans or vampire. According to Gabriel's family, Shay should be left to die. Now Gabriel must make the most difficult decision of his long life: defy the people's closest to him or save the life of his beloved. The plot is predictable. I mean, who would think that Gabriel would choose his family over Shay? There will be no story to speak of then. However, there is an interesting twist when Shay's mum revealed that Ernest actually got Gret pregnant when she was a human, which was why she killed herself

Birthday - A Quarter of a Century Old with Psychometric test for DXO position in the mix

It's a memorable birthday - The first birthday that I spent with my SO. Last year, I booked a solo trip to Cambodia so the idea was moot. I didn't expect us to last long then. He was super sweet, taking off to accompany me. I had a psychometric test at DTTB (on my birthday!) and he came to fetch me after that. The test was pretty interesting. It took around 3 hours for me to finish the whole thing. And there were around 20 applicants taking it at the same time. They all applied for different positions. The first was a verbal reasoning test, which tests on your comprehension of the passage. The second one was a patterns test, which is something like the P3 GP test. The third one was a personality test. Only the first two were timed. We went off to Malaysia after that, to celebrate my birthday. Lunched at Manhatten Fish Market. Then off to pump fuel and came back to SG. Went over to Adeline's place to visit her. Then after that, went over to Orchard to look for

Review: Spooktacular @ Fort Siloso (19/10/2013)

PL and I went for our first and last single's night event. We were slightly late for the event, as we rushed through a lot of stuff before going to Vivo. The $35 ticket was a very good deal. Dinner was included and the spread was not bad. The games were a bit of a clique and everyone was not very comfortable with one another. But the emcee really did put in effort to make the participants talk to one another. The crowd was a little too big though. For the Spooktacular, the queue was crazy. A quick chat with the entrance staff revealed that the night's ticket was sold out. @@ Even the express pass were out. We were the last few who managed to get it. $26.60 for the fast pass. I would say that the fast pass is worth it. We managed to go for all 5 trails even though we started at around 9pm. 2 hours for the fast pass to finish all 5. I would think that it's better than trying to queue in the normal pass lane. My legs were already aching by the time we finished the tr

Review: Kam Long Restaurant (Curry Fishhead at JB) - 17/10/2013

The first thing I saw when I was nearing this place was the long queue (at 10am in the morning!) We had to wait in the queue for around 15 mins before we got a seat. We were very lucky as the queue got much longer after we sat down. My mum complained that they put more curry powder this time round. My mum is a staunch non-believer of curry powder, so she was quite upset about it. Apparently the last time she came, there wasn't as much curry powder added. The food was cheap. Our medium size pot of curry goes for RM30. The prices as per below: Small: RM 19 Medium: RM30 Large: RM38 The portion is quite small (according to my mum's friend as she literally almost finished the curry by herself) but for me, non-spicy eater, I find that it is more than enough. Haha. Spicy stuff makes me eat lesser as I am always "spiced" by the chili. Even though the closing time is stated at 4.30pm, go before 3pm as it is usually sold out around then. Don't be my kuku fri

Review: Xcape Singapore - Whisper of the dead

We were the first to go into the room, as we booked the earliest slot. The six of us were in a stoned mode, since we slept very late the previous night at the chalet, and almost everyone was angsty. We were first led to a room filled with European paintings, and they contain the clues for us to unlock the next door. Then, it opened up to another corridor, where we had to solve another directional lock to reveal yet another door, with alphabets lock. I love the layout of the room, btw. The last room was the creepiest of all. Muhahaha. But I got to admit, they are good. The clues are actually well-used and we spent quite a bit of time fiddling with the lock even though we got the correct combination. Super sad. I guess we would be the first to die if we really need to get out of somewhere. Being with different groups of friends playing the same kind of escape games made me realised that the people that you are playing with are very important. And you should get a good night sleep be

Review: Xcape room Inception

The first shock of the day was that we have to split into two groups to solve the puzzles. That was cool and unexpected. There is nothing scary about it except that you are being locked in a room. The room effects are quite cool once you reach to the end of it. I'm not putting any spoilers here but I felt that inception is a bit harder than Catch me if you can. For Inception, most of the clues are mental but Catch me if you can's clues are more physical. There are also physical objects that really made you think that you are living in a dream :D For those who are going, good luck and have fun! P.S: We didn't manage to solve it in time though :(

Review: PA Holiday Flat Chalet

Just ended a retreat at PA holiday flat chalet. We got it for super cheap (56 bucks) for 4 days 3 nights. Excluding electricity. The first thing I thought of was that PA is always understaffed, because we had to wait for 1/2 hour to check in as the staff was not in office. Finally, when we managed to check in, we realised that there was a lot of stuff not provided for. Booking the BBQ pit costs $3.20. And there were no toilet rolls in the toilet. And we have to clean up the rooms. Like throw all the rubbish away and such. This was the first time I had been to such a chalet so I was a little shocked. We took #03-03 and everything was fine till the last day when there was a thunderstorm. The wall started leaking and formed puddles on the floor. One tip to note is that taking the ground floor is better when there are lots of movements around. Climbing the stairs multiple times a day is no joke. The bedroom of #03-03 The BBQ pit, with the playground and the flats in th

Review: Nausicaa of the Valley of the wind

I love Studio Glibli's works, where themes are always of environmental issues; something which is close to my heart. I took quite long to find this show, after being introduced to Miyazaki's work in university. This was the first of Miyazaki's series and it was perfect. The story was well developed, and the theme of environmentalism was brought about clearly to the audience. Granted, the animation was old, but it didn't deter me from enjoying the show. The anti-war elements in the film also appealed to me, and it was in line with his personal conviction that war should not happen. I was touched by the interdependence of the creatures and humans in this war torn world, with Nausicaa trying her best to meditate between the two world. By showing care and concern to others, she was able to penetrate into the world of the ohmus, whose fury which could have destroyed her home. The sound effect was awesome, together with the pacing of the story. I teared during the

Review: A Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory

I love Tudor history; that I do not deny. This book started with a fairytale-like bubble, and it slowly disintegrated into nothing. I knew for a start that the ending is a sorrowful one, but I didn't expect myself to like the character. I was in love with the idea that Catalina and Arthur was in love with each other, and when he died halfway through the book, I was aghast. Her life no longer sparkled, and all the things she did was with calculation and conviction. The latter part of the book was a tad disappointing. The scenes jumped too fast for those who are not schooled in Tudor knowledge to know what is going on. I would prefer to have a longer and more elaborated slow ending. I silently hoped that Catalina would be able to die and meet her beloved soon after his death, but it was not to be. I would say that some of the contents are purely speculation, but the facts are there too. I think it is a good read for those who love historical fiction and lack background to Tudor

Review: Fish spa and Cycling at Celestial Resort Palau Ubin

My friends and I bought a deal for Fish spa/cycling/kayaking at Celestial Resort Palau Ubin for $8.90 each. I took a quick peek at the pricing and we only saved $1.10. We took a fish spa and cycling combi as we went there late in the afternoon. The first view of Celestial Ubin Beach Resort We chose our bikes!! Halfway through the cycle when I nearly died. We finally reached the mangroves!!! Fish massage after we are done with cycling~~ The crazy swarm of fishes all over us. (BTW, this is not my leg =P) The blissful, happy moment of life. The bicycles were in an ok condition, but they are the normal kind of bikes, we had to dismount and push quite a bit. (even the guys couldn't go up the slope with their bikes) The guys were lamenting that they should have gone for the mountain bikes instead but I did not went to ask the price. The last I heard was $12 for the mountain bike and that was in 2005. After we cycled all the way to Chek Jawa
